WHAT IS A DIAMOND COLOUR GRADE?
It sounds almost slightly ironic, but a diamond’s colour actually refers to a diamond’s lack of colour. Simply put, it stands for the grading of the whiteness of a diamond. For example, in white diamonds, the presence of a yellow tint are less rare and will lower the price. Therefore, the less body colour a diamond has, the more rare it is and the more true colour it will reflect, and have a greater value.
The colour grading scale goes from D to Z, where D-E-F represent colorless diamonds, and S-Z represent light yellow to yellow diamonds.
Also remember that the jeweller is not the one grading the diamond. There are standard grading reports done by many agencies around the world. Some are more reliable than others. It’s important to have a jeweller you can trust that will help you decide what diamond is right for you.
